She runs along the trees
Jumping from branch to branch
When on the ground she still has speed
No matter what she must not be late,
There is little she can not climb
There is barely a distance she can’t jump.
Over the fences he gracefully jumps
He seems to dance as he runs through the trees
With his speed he had no need to climb
Though he must be mindful of low branches
He fears slowing will make him late
But there is no need to fear, he has his speed
With twitching tail off she speeds
Just to prove ability, now she jumps
She flies free in the air—fearing being late,
Then she lads gracefully in another tree
Now odd she runs along the new branch
Then up, up, up to new heights she climbs
Threw long grasses, up a hill he climbs
Neither grass nor incline slows his speed
There in his path he sees a fallen branch—
Without a thought, over it he easily jumps
He weaves his way around some trees
Hurrying faster so he won’t be late
She fears missing her if she is late,
So now down a tree she quickly climbs
Then she pauses to look though the trees
Hoping to see her friend as along he speeds
Through these trees, or over fallen ones jumping
Nervously she jumps at the sound of a braking branch
He stops, accidentally braking a branch
He relaxes, seeing that he is not late
Ahead he sees his squirrel-friend jump
Slowly the rest of the way up the hill he climbs
Together they walk into a clearing in the trees
Under the shading branches, onto a platform the squirrel climbs
This late in the day they may now dine with a casual speed
Together the friends dined, barely jumping at sounds in the trees
Reminders of the past
In the end
quarter past midnight
I knew they had to be some kind of animals, I just didn't know what kind.
