She saw the man from a distance

Their eyes locked fast

The world seemed to stop

For both it was the same-

It was a beginning and an end

She was one of the winged ones

Her life was dedicated to aiding life

She did what she could for nature

Always when they day was coolest

Be it the beginning or the end

He was one of the warrior clan

His life was dedicated to protecting life

At a moments notice he could be called

To go out and join with the army in battle

Be it at the beginning of the war or at the end

A coupling like theirs was rarely seen

Again and again they were both warned

Their lives were mean to be different,

They were meant to see different sides of nature

Her side was the beginning, his was the ending

But ever since they met they know

There could never be anyone else

For each saw only the other.

Their lives were now entwined together

This was both their beginning and their ending

Then one day he was called to fight.

She could not go with him, he could not stay

So as they parted he made this vow to her

He would be back and they would start again

Their lives together were just beginning, not ending

She held tightly to his every word

No matter where she was she kept watch

Always hoping to see his triumphant return

Always hearing her hopes would be crushed

She truly feared this was the beginning of the end

Then I a dream she saw his return

She was on a rock, a hand reaching out

His wings were battered, his noble form broken

Their eyes met--his were vacant--then he spoke,

“We have had our beginning, this is the end

She woke from the dream, her heart despairing

There was a messenger awaiting her in the hall,

He said the war was going poorly that nature would die

Her love had fought valiantly, she could be proud

But the beginning of the last battle had been his end

She took the news with her to the meadow

Then for the first time she let herself truly see

Even here the destruction of man surrounded her

She felt nature’s coming death in her own heart

Then she knelt and admitted, this was the beginning of the end
